Location Scouting

For the September issue of the magazine there is going to be a fall fashion feature. We are hoping to do a military inspired wardrobe. The other day we went to the Rhinebeck Aerodome to see if it would be a good location to do the shoot at. The people at the aerodome were super friendly and accomidating. The most interesting thing for me at the aerodome was all the old typography. Here are some pictures of the most interesting:

Final Newsletter Header

Newsletter Header design

HVMag is putting together an online newsletter profiling local resturants and food trends. They asked me to design a header for the newsletter. It had to be 650 by 200px, include the name of the newsletter ("The Corner Table"), the name of the editor, and an obnixous "Click here to suscribe to Hudson Valley Magazine". Also the people the I was working with really wanted to use this script font, Kari, because they thought it went along well with the main blog that will be featured in the newsletter. Here are some of my intial concepts and designs, along with the final header.

25 Things cover

The August issue of the magazine has the cover story of "25 More Things Every Hudson Valleyite Must Do." I decided to experiment some with cover design. Here is a link to the article online: http://www.hvmag.com/Hudson-Valley-Magazine/August-2010/25-More-Things-Every-Hudson-Valleyite-Must-Do/

Photo Shoot

For the August issue of HVMag they are doing a feature on established musicians and newcomers. So basically for five different instruments (strings, piano, drums, guitar, and saxophone) they photographed a young and old person who each played the same instrument. My first day of working I got to go to the photo shoot for the saxophone players. It was at Mike Polito's studio. Mike was a really nice guy, and a great photographer. I was able to take some behind the scenes shots with my camera that will go up on the website once the August issue is out.

First Week

I have been working at HVMag for about a week. I began working just as they were approaching the July deadline for the magazine, so things were pretty chaotic. It was interesting however to see how the staff pulled together in order to get the issue out on time. So far I have just been resizing and reformatting images to go on the web.
One thing that I found pretty interesting so far is not really even art related. The writers use an Adobe program called Incopy that links with Indesign so when someone is working on a layout for an article and someone else makes changes to that article Indesign automatically updates.
Also on my first day I got to go to a photoshoot for the August issue of the magazine. I'll post those pictures and explanation about the article that they correspond with tomorrow.
